Doctor Visit

I finally had Weston and Addison's yearly well-child visits today with their pediatrician. I had been putting this off, mainly because I knew that this one was going to be a "doosey" for Addison because of getting the dreaded 4 year shots. She already dreads doctor visits anyway, so I didn't clue her in on the shots ahead of time because I knew she would just worry. I also thought that she would be the only one getting shots because before we were told that Weston wouldn't need anymore until he was 12 or 13. So he thought he was home-free. Well, if I wasn't already dreading the shots for Addison enough, when we got there the nurse told us that Weston was going to have to have one, too, because they are giving one now that wasn't standard procedure to give when he was younger. So he had not had it, but needed it. He was so upset and started crying. He is rough and tumble on the ball field, etc. but boy when it comes to needles, he is a big baby! HA! The good news continued when the doctor informed me that they were also going to both need to be "pricked" for hemoglobin checks. I had two not-so-happy-campers on my hands. I tried to explain to them (cue teachable moment) how lucky that they are not to have to have these things done more often...there are so many children out there that are worse off and we need to be thankful for their health. Hopefully this will sink in, but in the moment all they cared about was the fact that they were about to get shots and pricks. I'm thankful to report that we all survived and Mommy plans to follow through tonight with her promise of a special treat--a trip to the frozen yogurt bar! (I offered to take them right after the appt but Weston wanted to get back to school and go tonight) I want to put their stats below so that I'll have them documented--

WESTON: 7 years, 2 months
weight- 72 lbs. (96.58 percentile)
height- 50.75 in. (86.61 percentile)

ADDISON: 4 years, 3 months
weight- 31.2 lbs. (12.38 percentile) *she had no weight gain since her last weigh in from October, but we are just watching this for now and will continue to pump calories
height- 38 in. (8.61 percentile) yay!

And here are two pictures from this morning...Addison was still oblivious and looking at books; Weston knew what was about to come! I have to say that Addison is coming a long way with her anxiety about going to the doctor. I was proud of her this morning. Weston normally does fine unless there is a needle involved. ;)
